Matt Barnes will be recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to start for the Red Sox on Monday against the Indians, Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports. Barnes will be replacing Steven Wright, who is on on the seven-day concussion disabled list.
Barnes, 25, has made 21 relief appearances for the Red Sox this season, posting a 5.64 ERA with a 22/8 K/BB ratio in 22 1/3 innings. However, he’s been getting stretched out as a starter, and will be expected to throw around 100 pitches.
Wright was hit in the neck while running sprints during batting practice on Wednesday — a day after making a start against the Marlins — which was what sent him to the DL. The Red Sox are hopeful that the right-hander will only need to miss one start.
