Rays starter Matt Moore struggled again in a loss to the Red Sox on Saturday, yielding six runs in three innings of work. He hasn’t had good results in six starts since being activated from the disabled list on July 2, posting an 8.78 ERA with a 2.06 WHIP and a 17/13 K/BB ratio in 26 2/3 innings. The Rays will demote Moore to Triple-A to work out his issues, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Moore, a former top prospect, underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2014. The 26-year-old had shown promise in 2013, his sophomore season, when he finished with a 3.29 ERA, earned an All-Star nomination, and finished ninth in American League Cy Young Award balloting.
