From Nick Cafardo’s Sunday notebook in the Boston Globe:
Jake Peavy, RHP, Giants — Peavy has gone from getting a minimal contract in free agency to a possible three-year deal. The Giants are interested in re-signing him because they need him, and manager Bruce Bochy has pushed the right buttons with him. The National League agrees with Peavy, who is only 33. And he appears to be enjoying being back with Bochy, his manager during his glory years in San Diego.
Peavy posted a fantastic 2.17 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 58/17 K/BB ratio in 78 2/3 innings after the July 26 trade that sent him from Boston out to San Francisco for pitching prospects Edwin Escobar and Heath Hembree. The veteran right-hander held the Nationals to two hits over 5 2/3 scoreless innings in Game 1 of the NLDS and he can further pad his free agent résumé in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday night in St. Louis. The Giants lead the series 1-0.
