The latest Gonzalez Germen update

Gonzalez Germen, currently with the Cubs, has had an interesting off-season. He started with the Mets, but has gone through the Yankees’ and Rangers’ systems before joining the Cubs on a January 23 waiver claim. Since then, we’ve all been waiting with bated breath for the next move.

On February 4, the Cubs claimed Drake Britton off waivers from the Red Sox and designated Germen for assignment, seemingly sending him off for a fifth organization in three months. As luck would have it, Germen is staying with the Cubs. Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports that the right-hander has been outrighted to Triple-A Iowa. Phew.

Germen, 27, has a 4.31 ERA and a 64/30 K/BB ratio in 64 2/3 major league innings in his career. Relievers who can miss bats but have subpar control have become increasingly common, which is why Germen hasn’t been able to find a permanent home this off-season.
