Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner had to be placed on the 15-day disabled list last week after a pimple on his right thigh became infected. He’s currently at the Dodgers’ spring training complex in Arizona and has not been cleared for baseball activities, but that should change pretty soon.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register on Tuesday that he expects Turner to be ready for activation when first eligible on August 12. It’s not a ligament or a bone thing, so Turner shouldn’t be losing much in the way of strength or conditioning while he’s on the shelf.
The 30-year-old Turner is having a tremendous season for the National League West-leading Dodgers, boasting a .323/.387/.563 slash line with 13 home runs, 20 doubles, and 44 RBI in 87 games.
Alex Guerrero has been getting the majority of the reps at the hot corner in Turner’s absence.
