Giants sign Drew Pomeranz to one-year, $1.5 million deal

KNBR’s Larry Krueger reports that the GIants are expected to sign free agent pitcher Drew Pomeranz. ESPN’s Jeff Passan adds that the deal is for one year and $1.5 million, and Chris Cotillo of Masslive.com notes that Pomeranz can earn an additional $3.5 million through performance incentives. [Update: The deal is official.]

Pomeranz, 30, had an injury-plagued 2018, battling biceps tendinitis. He made 11 starts and 15 relief appearances totaling 75 innings, posting a 6.08 ERA with a 66/44 K/BB ratio. The lefty was quite solid between 2014-17, however, accruing an aggregate 3.24 ERA over nearly 500 innings.

Pomeranz could snag a spot at the back of the Giants’ starting rotation. The Giants already have lefties Will Smith, Tony Watson, and Steven Okert in the bullpen.
