In a move that is more about paperwork than anything else, the Texas Rangers have officially released Prince Fielder.
Fielder’s career ended in August 2016 due to a chronic neck injury. Before it ended he played for 12 seasons, batting .283/.382/.506 with 319 home runs and 1,028 RBI in 1,611 games for the Brewers, Tigers and Rangers. The 33-year-old is still owed $72 million, with the Tigers covering $18 million of it.
Presumably the move is roster or insurance related. Either way, Fielder seems to be living a pretty happy life in retirement.
