Report: Diamondbacks sign Junior Guerra to one-year contract

Kyle Lesniewski of SB Nation’s Brew Crew Ball reports that the Diamondbacks have signed pitcher Junior Guerra to a one-year deal that includes an option for 2021. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic confirms the report. Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic adds that the deal is for $2.55 million.

Guerra, who turns 35 years old next month, was non-tendered by the Brewers last week as he was projected to earn $3.5 million in his first year of arbitration eligibility. This past season, his first as a full-time reliever, the right-hander posted a 3.55 ERA with 77 strikeouts and 36 walks over 83 2/3 innings. The Brewers commonly used Guerra for more than three outs as he did so in 23 of his 72 appearances.

Guerra will add depth to a Diamondbacks bullpen that sorely needs it, joining an amalgam of players bridging the gap to closer Archie Bradley.
