Indians, Cody Anderson avoid arbitration

The Indians and pitcher Cody Anderson have avoided arbitration, agreeing on a one-year contract worth $641,250 for the 2019 season, Fancred’s Jon Heyman reports.

Anderson, 28, was arbitration-eligible for the first of three years. He hasn’t actually pitched in the majors since 2016 as he had been recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in March 2017. He pitched briefly in the minors in late August and early September this past season, throwing an inning each at Rookie ball, Low-A Mahoning Valley, and Double-A Akron.

Anderson will participate with the Indians in spring training but will likely have to begin the year in the minors and work his way back up.
