The Mets announced on Thursday that starter Steven Matz has been placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 5) due to radial nerve discomfort. First baseman Dominic Smith has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse.

Matz, 27, should not be sidelined for long. SNY’s Andy Martino suggests Matz will start next Thursday assuming there are no setbacks. The lefty has a 3.86 ERA with 32 strikeouts and nine walks across 35 innings this season.

Smith, 23, has a solid .333/.459/.400 batting line with a pair of doubles and four RBI in 37 trips to the plate. He’ll work off the bench as needed.
