Royals shutting down Danny Duffy for rest of season

Royals starter Danny Duffy exited last night’s start with a left shoulder impingement. This is the same issue he dealt with last month. He likewise experienced shoulder tightness back in spring training.

The upshot of all of those shoulder issues: a disappointing year in which he went 8-12 with a 4.88 ERA and a K/BB ratio of 141/70 in 155 innings over 28 starts. It was his worst season in the bigs since his rookie campaign in 2011.

After the game Duffy said that he expects to be shut down for the remainder of the season. Given that there’s less than a month remaining in the season and given that the Royals have long been out of the running, it’d be unexpected to see him pitching again in 2018.
