The Brewers announced on Sunday that the club claimed pitcher Jordan Lyles off waivers from the Padres.

Lyles, 27, has accrued 71 1/3 innings this season across eight starts and 16 relief appearances for the Padres. He owns a 4.29 ERA with a 62/19 K/BB ratio. Lyles has a $3.5 million club option on his contract for the 2019 season with a $250,000 buyout.

It is not clear yet exactly how the Brewers will utilize Lyles. He could work out of the bullpen, but the club also badly needs depth in the starting rotation with Jimmy Nelson, Brent Suter, and Zach Davies all sidelined with injuries.
