The Chicago Cubs have acquired pitcher Eddie Butler and international bonus slot No. 74 from the Colorado Rockies for pitcher James Farris and international bonus slot No. 28. The trade of international slots adds $255K to the Rockies’ international signing pool.
Butler was once a top prospect but his star has faded. In parts of three big league seasons in Colorado he’s posted a 6.50 ERA with horrendous hits allowed totals. He’s been pretty bad in the high minors too. Maybe getting him off the Colorado/Albuquerque Shuttle of Pitcher Death will help him out.
Farris was a 9th round pick of the Cubs in the 2014 draft. In 88 minor league games, all in relief, he has posted a 2.90 ERA and has a strikeout rate of 10.7 per nine innings pitched. He spent last year in Double-A.
