Jon Morosi of FOX Sports and MLB Network reports that the Braves have spoken with the Rays about starter Chris Archer as well as other controllable starting pitchers. The Rays have a lot of those, so that could refer to any combination of Jake Odorizzi, Alex Cobb, Drew Smyly, and Erasmo Ramirez.

Archer, 28, is under contract through at least 2019, earning $4.75 next season followed by $6.25 million and $7.5 million the next two years. He’s coming off of a mediocre season during which he went 9-19 with a 4.02 ERA and a 233/67 K/BB ratio in 201 1/3 innings. Archer’s FIP (3.81) and xFIP (3.41) suggest he’s capable of better results going forward.

The Braves’ rotation at present includes Julio Teheran, Josh Collmenter, Matt Wisler, Aaron Blair, and Mike Foltynewicz.
