It’s not looking good for the Cubs right now.
While Chicago’s bullpen tried to put the kibosh on the Indians’ offense, Cleveland second baseman Jason Kipnis unleashed a three-run bomb in the seventh inning to bring the score to 7-1. It was the second home run of the night for the Indians, who started their rally with a Carlos Santana home run back in the second inning against Cubs’ right-hander John Lackey.
Statcast measured Kipnis’ mammoth 403-foot home run at 103 m.p.h., just a tick slower than Santana’s 111-m.p.h. line drive that literally knocked the glove off Mike Montgomery in the sixth inning.
The Indians currently lead the Cubs 7-1 in the eighth.
