Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL and meniscus on Friday, MLB.com’s William Ladson reports. His rehab is expected to take seven months. That puts him on track to return in mid-May.
Ramos, 29, suffered the injury in late September leaping to catch an errant Ryan Zimmerman throw. A free agent after the conclusion of the playoffs, Ramos was having the best season of his career, batting .307/.354/.496 with 22 home runs and 80 RBI in 523 plate appearances. All things considered, it was most unfortunate timing for an injury.
