With the exception of a pinch hitting appearance over the weekend, Washington Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy has been out since September 17 with a strained left glute. And even the pinch hitting appearance was stretching Murph’s abilities, as it was only undertaken in order for him to try get the NL batting title. Thanks to a comfortable division lead Murphy’s absence hasn’t caused the Nats problems, but they’ll definitely want him back in the playoffs.
Sounds like they’re getting their wish: Nats general manager Mike Rizzo said today that Murphy is expected to be ready for Game 1 of the NLDS against the Dodgers on Friday.
Shaking off the rust from his layoff may be a pain in the butt, but the Nats will certainly welcome back one of their biggest stars from 2016 when the Dodgers come to town.
