Sunday afternoon marked Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully’s final home game behind the microphone. Scully has been celebrated in many ways since he announced he planned to retire at season’s end. On Sunday, he was surprised by a visit from his grandchildren.
The players in the Dodgers’ starting lineup honored Scully by tipping their helmets up at him in the broadcast booth prior to their first at-bats against the Rockies.
Poetically, Scully’s final calls will come next weekend when the Dodgers are in San Francisco to play the Giants. Scully became enamored by baseball at the age of eight after watching the New York Giants in Game 2 of the 1936 World Series.
