Athletics pitching prospect Jharel Cotton made his major league debut on Wednesday afternoon against the Angels and was quite impressive. The right-hander went 6 1/3 innings, limiting the Halos to a lone run on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts on 102 pitches.

The lone run came on a solo home run by C.J. Cron in the top of the seventh. Cotton would face one more batter, getting Jefry Marte to pop out, before departing.

The A’s acquired Cotton along with Frankie Montas and Grant Holmes from the Dodgers ahead of the August 1 non-waiver trade deadline in exchange for starter Rich Hill and outfielder Josh Reddick. MLB Pipeline rated Cotton as the organization’s 14th-best prospect.

Since moving from Triple-A Oklahoma City (Dodgers) to Nashville (Athletics), Cotton put up a 2.82 ERA with a 36/7 K/BB ratio in 38 1/3 innings prior to Wednesday’s big league debut.
