Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins have activated Giancarlo Stanton from the 15-day disabled list in time for Tuesday night’s game against the Phillies. Spencer adds that Stanton will only be used as a pinch-hitter for now. It’s not yet clear when he will return to the starting lineup.

Stanton, 26, has been out since mid-August with a Grade 3 groin strain. Some believed that Stanton would miss the rest of the season, but he’s back with enough time to help the Marlins fight for a playoff spot. Entering Tuesday’s action, the Marlins are five games out of the second NL Wild Card slot. It will be a tough hill to climb, but it’s possible.

Stanton returns with a .244/.329/.496 triple-slash line with 25 home runs and 70 RBI in 432 plate appearances.
