Matt Shoemaker had emergency surgery last night to stop bleeding

Yesterday Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker suffered a skull fracture and a hematoma after being hit by a comebacker off the bat of Kyle Seager of the Mariners. He was admitted to a hospital in Seattle and saw a neurologist. He was awake and speaking, which seemed like a good sign.

Things got a bit hairy last night, however, as Angels GM Billy Eppler just revealed that Shoemaker had emergency surgery after a CT scan showed continued bleeding. The surgery was deemed routine and successful by Eppler.

Eppler says that Shoemaker is expected to return home to Orange County later this week and that, while this will obviously end his 2016 season, he is expected to make a full recovery for next season.

Scary stuff, but good to hear.
