Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg could return from the disabled list on Wednesday, MLB.com’s Jamal Collier reports. Strasburg, sidelined with right elbow soreness, threw bullpens every other day this past week and came away feeling great. In fact, Collier writes, one of Strasburg’s bullpen sessions was so good that it caused teammate Gio Gonzalez into manager Dusty Baker’s office raving.
The Nationals haven’t announced anything about Strasburg’s status yet, but Wednesday’s starter is listed as “TBA.” Baker doesn’t believe Strasburg will need to make a rehab start.
Strasburg, 28, will resume with a 15-4 redcord, a 3.59 ERA, and a 179/44 K/BB ratio in 145 1/3 innings. He was in the thick of things for the NL Cy Young Award, but a poor month of August sent his ERA from the mid-2.00’s to 3.59.
