CSN Chicago’s Patrick Mooney reports that the Cubs signed pitcher Josh Collmenter to a minor league contract. He will report to Triple-A Iowa, but he is expected come up to the big leagues again when rosters expand in September.

Collmenter, 30, was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on July 30, then was released on Sunday. In 22 1/3 innings this season, he compiled a 4.84 ERA with a 17/11 K/BB ratio. The right-hander missed the first two months of the season with a shoulder injury.

Over parts of five seasons in the majors, Collmenter has made 75 starts and 125 relief appearances, so he’ll provide some versatility for the Cubs down the stretch.
