Rockies manager Walt Weiss has removed Carlos Estevez from the closer’s role and named Adam Ottavino the new closer, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.

Estevez, 23, blew the save in each of his last two appearances, yielding four runs in one-third of an inning against the Marlins on Friday and three runs to the Rangers on Monday. Overall, he’s 11-for-16 in save situations with a 5.18 ERA and a 46/20 K/BB ratio in 40 innings.

Ottavino, 30, was to be the Rockies’ closer last season but he got injured early in the season and eventually underwent Tommy John surgery. He’s pitched only 11 2/3 innings this season, but has yet to allow a run on eight hits and three walks with 12 strikeouts.
