Outfielder Jay Bruce went 0-for-4 in his Mets debut on Tuesday and followed up with an 0-for-5 performance on Wednesday. Not exactly the start Bruce envisioned when he joined a contending team.
Bruce was 0-for-2 when he stepped to the plate with runners on first and second base and two outs in the top of the fifth inning against Yankees starter Nathan Eovaldi. He worked the count 1-1, then lifted an 85 MPH slider to right-center field at Yankee Stadium, pushing it beyond the fence into the Yankees’ bullpen.

With three RBI, Bruce temporarily retakes the National League lead in RBI at 83. Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado entered Thursday night with 82.
