Last month, we learned that the Athletics planned to discuss a contract with outfielder Josh Reddick. That hasn’t happened yet, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports, which increases the likelihood of Reddick being traded by the August 1 non-waiver trade deadline.
Slusser notes that the Royals are “following [Reddick] closely.” The Giants, Cubs, Dodgers, Blue Jays, and Nationals have also scouted Reddick.
Reddick would represent an upgrade over Paulo Orlando for the Royals. The club is also expecting center fielder Lorenzo Cain to return from the disabled list before the end of July, pushing Jarrod Dyson back to the bench.
Reddick, 29, is earning $6.575 million this season and can become a free agent at season’s end. He’s hitting .296/.371/.429 with five home runs and 20 RBI in 213 plate appearances. Reddick missed a little over a month between May and June with a broken thumb.
