The Nationals placed starter Joe Ross on the 15-day disabled list, creating an open roster spot for Stephen Strasburg to be activated from the DL and start on Sunday. Ross is dealing with shoulder inflammation, Chase Hughes of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
Ross typically averages about 93 MPH on his fastball, but he experienced a sudden velocity loss towards the end of Saturday’s start against the Reds. He ended up going 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits and no walks with two strikeouts. Overall, he owns a 3.49 ERA with a 79/26 K/BB ratio in 95 1/3 innings.
With Ross sidelined, Lucas Giolito will almost certainly remain in the Nationals’ rotation.
