Report: Nationals sign Mat Latos to a minor league deal

Pitcher Mat Latos told Bruce Levine of 670 The Score that he signed a minor league contract with the Nationals, pending a physical. He’ll likely report to Triple-A Syracuse.

Latos, 28, was designated for assignment and later released by the White Sox earlier this month. After a few good starts early in the season, Latos struggled mightily, ultimately leaving Chicago with a 4.62 ERA with a 32/25 K/BB ratio in 60 1/3 innings.

Considering Latos’ strikeout rate is way down and his walk rate is way up, it doesn’t seem like he can be a mid-rotation starter anymore, but he can at least provide starting pitching depth for the Nationals.
