The Rangers have claimed pitcher Eric Surkamp off waivers from the Athletics, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. The moved outfielder Drew Stubbs to the 60-day disabled list to create room on the 40-man roster for Surkamp, then optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock.

Surkamp, 28, was designated for assignment by the A’s on Monday after posting a 6.98 ERA with a 22/21 K/BB ratio in 38 2/3 innings spanning nine starts. While his numbers are not exactly flattering, he can both start and operate out of the bullpen, so he can provide depth at both ends for the Rangers.
