Nationals pitching prospect Lucas Giolito will be called up from Double-A Harrisburg to make his major league debut on Tuesday against the Mets, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports. The Nationals recently placed Stephen Strasburg on the disabled list, so the club was in need of another starter.
Giolito, 21, is not only considered to be the Nationals’ best prospect, but the best prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline. With Harrisburg, the right-hander posted a 3.17 ERA and a 72/34 K/BB ratio in 71 innings spanning 14 starts.
Giolito will oppose the Mets’ Matt Harvey in the second game of a three-game series tomorrow.
