Bruce Bochy won his 800th game as the Giants’ manager in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon, as his club pulled out a walk-off 8-7 victory against the Phillies. He leads active managers in wins with 1,751 and joins Sparky Anderson as the only managers in baseball history to win 800-plus games with two different teams, as MLB’s Stat of the Day Twitter account notes.

Bochy managed the Padres from 1995 to 2006, winning one pennant in 1998. The Giants hired him in 2007 and he’s been with them ever since, leading them to three championships.

Bochy is 16th all-time in wins as a manager. He needs 18 more to tie Jim Leyland at 1,769.

Sunday’s win was the Giants’ 49th of the season, moving into the National League lead at 49-28. Only the Rangers (49-27) have a better record in baseball.
