Cubs third baseman Javier Baez ranged to his left in an attempt to corral a J.T. Realmuto ground ball in the bottom of the sixth inning. The ball skipped off his glove into the air. Alertly, Baez found the ball, snagged it, then fired to first. Realmuto was ruled out by first base umpire D.J. Reyburn, but the Marlins challenged and the call was ultimately overturned. Baez’s effort was all for naught.
Still, points for pizzazz.

Realmuto stole second base, but was stranded when Chris Johnson struck out to end the inning.
