Kolten Wong recalled from Triple-A

That was relatively fast: the Cardinals have recalled 2B/OF Kolten Wong from Triple-A Memphis.

The “OF” part of that may have been the key to the recall, as Wong showed in a brief period of time that he could maybe play a serviceable center field and be a super utility player. His bat helped too, of course, as Wong hit .429/.529/.929 with four homers in seven games.

Given Randal Grichuk‘s struggles at the moment, Wong certainly has an opportunity. If he can keep hitting like he was at Triple-A, this little adventure in the minors will be a distant memory and that contract extension he got in March will remain a good idea instead of a poor gamble.
