Here’s a shocking move: the White Sox have designated starter Mat Latos for assignment, CSN Chicago’s Dan Hayes reports. Latos is earning $3 million on a one-year deal, so the White Sox will be on the hook for the remainder.
Latos, 28, was great in his first four starts, jumping out to a 0.74 ERA. Since April 30, however, the right-hander has a 7.25 ERA in 36 innings spanning seven starts.
The White Sox are 6-20 since May 10, so the club is trying to do whatever it can to right the ship. James Shields was brought over from the Padres recently, but he was lit up in his debut on Wednesday night.
