The Phillies announced on Wednesday afternoon the acquisition of utilityman Jimmy Paredes from the Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations. In related moves, the Phillies moved pitcher Charlie Morton to the 60-day disabled list and designated utilityman Emmanuel Burriss for assignment.

Paredes, 27, was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Monday, just two weeks after the Jays had claimed him off waivers from the Orioles. He had only 17 plate appearances for the Jays, but racked up two singles, a double, and a homer.

The Phillies’ outfield has been abysmal this year was their aggregate .545 OPS from right fielders and .588 from left fielders are both worst in the league. Peter Bourjos, who has been handling right field, could cede some of his playing time to Paredes.
