Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left thumb and recalled Jake Smolinski from Triple-A Nashville, the club reported on Friday. Reddick is expected to miss six weeks, per MLB.com’s Jane Lee.
Reddick suffered the injury on Thursday evening on an attempted steal of second base in the seventh inning against the Yankees. Reddick caught his thumb on Starlin Castro‘s cleat on a head-first slide.
It’s a tough loss for the A’s, as Reddick was hitting .322/.394/.466 with five home runs and 18 RBI in 165 plate appearances. While he’s on the shelf, the A’s figure to rotate players in the outfield, including Khris Davis, Coco Crisp, Tyler Ladendorf, Chris Coghlan, and Smolinski.
