Jeff Wilson of the Forth Worth Star-Telegram reports that the Rangers have optioned reliever Tom Wilhelmsen to Triple-A Round Rock and recalled pitcher Luke Jackson.

Wilhelmsen, 32, had a nightmarish start to the season, his first with the Rangers after the club acquired him from the Mariners in a trade last November. The right-hander yielded 17 runs on 25 hits and eight walks with only six strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings. For those keeping score at home, that’s a 9.98 ERA.

Jackson, 24, has pitched well at Triple-A thus far, putting up a 3.68 ERA with a 19/10 K/BB ratio in 14 2/3 innings.

The Rangers, as a whole, have a 5.18 bullpen ERA, the worst in the American League and “beat” only by the Reds’ 6.16 mark.
