Trevor Story drove a ball deep to the wall in right center in Coors Field tonight. Yasiel Puig tried to catch it and almost did. But he didn’t catch it. He kept it from going out, but it rattled off his glove and kicked into the field. Story was on his horse, plowing toward second and then rounding it and headed for third.
Puig picked up the ball and threw it. He didn’t think for half a second. He didn’t clutch, double clutch or anything. It was grip it and rip it toward third base on an arc that might have intercepted the orbit of the International Space Station. But the ball landed only a few inches from third on the fly, Justin Turner applied the tag and that was the end of the Story.
