Giants reliever Sergio Romo has been diagnosed with a flexor strain in his right elbow and will be placed on the 15-day disabled list, per Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area. Romo initially felt soreness in his elbow on Wednesday morning, a few days after his most recent appearance on Sunday. Pavlovic adds that the injury is similar to what Matt Cain dealt with last year. Romo won’t throw for a few weeks to give his elbow some rest.

Romo, in four appearances to begin the 2016 season, has allowed one run on a hit and a walk with one strikeout.

With Romo on the shelf, Hunter Strickland could see some more opportunities in the eighth inning ahead of closer Santiago Casilla.
