What’s on Tap: Previewing Tuesday’s action

The Diamondbacks — terrible uniforms and all — are in L.A. for the Dodgers’ home opener on Tuesday afternoon (4:10 PM EST) and have the tall task of taking on starter Kenta Maeda. Maeda not only tossed six shutout innings against the Padres in his major league debut last Wednesday, he crushed a home run as well. He became the first Dodger to homer in his debut since Jose Offerman in 1990. Maeda is also the pitcher to homer in his debut since Tommy Milone in 2011. Meanwhile, the D-Backs have lost four of their last five in part due to terrible starting pitching. Shelby Miller and Zack Greinke have combined to yield 21 earned runs in 21 innings of work thus far. Patrick Corbin, who will oppose Maeda today, was comparatively pretty good his first time out, serving up four runs on eight hits (three homers) with no walks and six strikeouts over seven innings.

The rest of Tuesday’s action:

Atlanta Braves (Jhoulys Chacin) @ Washington Nationals (Gio Gonzalez), 7:05 PM EST

The Braves are 0-6. Poor Craig.

San Diego Padres (Robbie Erlin) @ Philadelphia Phillies (Charlie Morton), 7:05 PM EST

Hopefully there aren’t any more infield fly rule shenanigans.

New York Yankees (Masahiro Tanaka) @ Toronto Blue Jays (Aaron Sanchez), 7:07 PM EST

Baltimore Orioles (Mike Wright) @ Boston Red Sox (Clay Buchholz), 7:10 PM EST

The Orioles set a new franchise record, starting the season with six consecutive wins. Can they make it seven?

Cleveland Indians (Corey Kluber) @ Tampa Bay Rays (Matt Moore), 7:10 PM EST

Miami Marlins (Jose Fernandez) @ New York Mets (Noah Syndergaard), 7:10 PM EST

This is the pitching match-up of the day, easily.

Kansas City Royals (Kris Medlen) @ Houston Astros (Mike Fiers), 8:10 PM EST

San Francisco Giants (Jeff Samardzija) @ Colorado Rockies (Tyler Chatwood), 8:40 PM EST

Rookie Trevor Story homered¬†seven times in his team’s first six games, a new major league record.

Los Angeles Angels (Hector Santiago) @ Oakland Athletics (Kendall Graveman), 10:05 PM EST

Texas Rangers (Derek Holland) @ Seattle Mariners (Wade Miley), 10:10 PM EST

Nomar Mazara went 3-for-4 with a homer in his major league debut on Sunday, then followed up with a 2-for-4 performance on Monday. Not Story-esque, but that’s still really impressive.
