The Diamondbacks plan to replace injured center fielder A.J. Pollock with a combination of Socrates Brito and Chris Owings. However, if they decide to look outside the organization for help, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports suggests the club would consider Michael Bourn or Will Venable.
Neither Bourn (Braves) nor Venable (Phillies) made his team’s Opening Day roster. Bourn hit a disappointing .240 in 50 spring at-bats while Venable hit .167 in 50 at-bats split between the Indians and Phillies.
Brito, 23, made the jump from Double-A Mobile — where he hit .300 — to the majors last season for the D-Backs. He hit a productive .303 over 34 plate appearances. Along with his ability to hit for a high average, Brito has also shown an ability to run the bases well along with solid defense in center field.
