Orioles third baseman Manny Machado has made the off-balance throw across the diamond before, most memorably back in July 2013 against the Yankees. He makes it look easy, but it is really an incredibly difficult play requiring precise footwork, arm strength, and accuracy.
Machado did it again on Sunday, in the fourth inning of a Grapefruit League game against the Rays. Rene Rivera came to the plate with runners on the corners with two outs and his team trailing by four runs. He hit a grounder down the third base line, which Machado fielded while lunging a few feet into foul territory. He somehow collected himself enough to whip the ball across his body to first baseman Chris Davis, who made a superb scoop to ensure the out.
The two clubs would end up tying 8-8 on the afternoon.

I, for one, am looking forward to more of these plays throughout the year.
