Rangers exercise 2018 option on Manager of the Year winner Jeff Banister

Jeff Banister was voted Manager of the Year in his rookie season at the helm in Texas and today the Rangers announced that they’ve exercised the 2018 team option in his contract and tacked on another option for 2019–with a raise.

It’s similar to what the Diamondbacks did earlier this week with Chip Hale, basically making a commitment to a manager who received very positive reviews in his first season and extending the team’s control within his contract.

Banister managed the Rangers to an 88-74 record, plus two more victories in the ALDS loss to the Blue Jays. His original deal, signed in October of 2014, was a three-year contract with a fourth-year team option to replace longtime Rangers manager Ron Washington.
