Gaby Sanchez returns from Japan, signs with Mariners

Gaby Sanchez–who can accurately be described as “former All-Star Gaby Sanchez”–has signed a minor-league deal with the Mariners, according to Jerry Crasnick of

Sanchez was an everyday first baseman for the Marlins in 2010 and 2011, making the All-Star team in the latter year, but then transitioned into a part-time role for the Pirates and mostly struggled from 2012-2014.

He spent last season playing in Japan after finding his MLB market lacking and didn’t fare well, hitting just .226 in 66 games, which is why Sanchez has to settle for a minor-league deal upon his return to America at age 32.
