Kyle Parker designated for assignment by the Rockies

To make room on the 40-man roster for free agent signing Gerardo Parra the Rockies designated for assignment former first-round draft pick Kyle Parker.

Parker was the 26th overall pick in the 2010 draft out of Clemson and saw MLB action in both 2014 and 2015, but he hit just .182 in 64 total games through age 25.

Parker’s numbers in the minors are better, but still not particularly promising for a first baseman/left fielder. He hit very well at Single-A and Double-A, but has batted .285 with 24 homers and a .774 OPS in 221 games at Triple-A.

If there’s a long-term role for Parker in the majors it’ll likely be as a platoon player facing mostly left-handed pitching.
