A.J. Griffin signs with the Rangers

A.J. Griffin once looked like a long-term rotation building block for the A’s, but his career was derailed by Tommy John elbow surgery in 2014 and he’s yet to get back on track.

Oakland cut Griffin loose following back-to-back missed seasons and now the 28-year-old right-hander has joined the Rangers on a minor-league contract.

It’s impossible to know what to expect from Griffin at this point, but his deal includes an invitation to spring training and prior to blowing out his elbow he posted a 3.60 ERA in 47 starts through two seasons.
