Report: Johnny Cueto, Giants agree to a deal

UPDATE: It’s a done deal. Six years, $130 million.

Ken Rosenthal of reports that the Giants are “making a strong push” for free agent right-hander Johnny Cueto, who would be San Francisco’s second big-money rotation addition after signing Jeff Samardzija for $90 million.

Cueto will cost significantly more than Samardzija and rightfully so, as he’s posted a 3.30 ERA in 226 career starts and is coming off his fifth straight season with a sub-3.50 ERA despite some second-half struggles for the Royals.

During that five-year span of 2011-2015 his 2.71 ERA ranks second-best in all of baseball behind only Clayton Kershaw. Zack Greinke, who just signed a six-year, $206.5 million deal with the Diamondbacks, has the third-best ERA during that span at 2.82.
