White Sox trying to unload first baseman Adam LaRoche

Last offseason the White Sox signed first baseman Adam LaRoche to a two-year, $25 million contract and now they’re trying to trade him, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Nightengale says the White Sox want to move LaRoche in order to “clear money for a big bat.” Which is interesting, because he was supposed to be a big bat for Chicago and instead hit just .207 with 12 homers and a .634 OPS in 127 games.

LaRoche was a solidly above-average first baseman for most of the previous decade, but at age 36 and coming off an awful season it’s tough to see another team wanting to take on his remaining $13 million salary for 2016 unless the White Sox eat some of it.
