Orioles, Vance Worley avoid arbitration for $2.6 million

Right-hander Vance Worley, whom the Orioles claimed off waivers from the Pirates in October, has avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.6 million contract.

Worley’s raw stuff never impresses, but aside from a very rough patch with the Twins in 2013 he’s consistently been an effective pitcher with a 3.42 ERA in 460 career innings not spent in Minnesota.

Going from the NL to the AL will be a challenge, but Worley has fared pretty well as both a starter and reliever. He gives the Orioles some flexibility at a reasonable price and is under team control through 2018.
