Rangers first-year manager Jeff Banister was named the 2015 American League Manager of the Year during a live presentation Tuesday night on MLB Network.

Banister received 17 first-place votes to top A.J. Hinch of the Astros (eight first-place votes) and Paul Molitor of the Twins (two first-place votes). Blue Jays manager John Gibbons came in fourth behind those three.

“I’m truly honored and blessed,” Banister told MLB Network. “This is an organizational award, for me. It comes down to our coaching staff, our players, our developmental staff, our front office. … It takes an entire organization and a group of players.”

Texas was hit with multiple major injuries in 2015 but managed to come from behind to capture the American League West title. They eventually fell to the Blue Jays in the American League Division Series.
